Graduation is right around the corner (for me anyways) and while this may be exciting, the relief is yet to come. Getting closer to graduation not only means finals, it also means shopping for a commencement dress. If you are like me, the first thing you think of is “what am I going to wear?” For the last couple of weeks, I’ve been on the hunt for a graduation dress and finally found the perfect one. My initial thought was a beautiful flowy gown but I opted for a shorter dress and at least this way I knew I wouldn’t need to make a trip to the tailor.
Pastels are everywhere this summer and while there isn’t a specific color scheme for graduation; blush, ivory, and white are classic colors that I think would look stunning for this occasion. The practical side of me also wanted to look for a dress that could be worn more than once (not just a dress that hangs in the closet for years), so I rounded up some of my favorite dresses and a few tips to consider for your graduation outfit.
- First, wear something that you will be comfortable in. Wearing a dress that you can’t breathe in most likely will be uncomfortable sitting in for hours. Also, you will be walking across the stage so a dress that is less restricting would be best.
- Secondly, there are so many cute dresses that have a flared bottom, but this may look strange once you have your gown over it. Ditch the poof and opt for a sleeker dress.
- Lastly, let’s not forget about shoes! No matter where your graduation is held (indoor or outdoor), you will be standing for long periods of time and once again, walking across the stage. The last thing you need is to accidentally trip or have blisters on your feet. Wearing wedge sandals or block heels are great options and will still make you look dressy.
